After a whirlwind year in which she released her breakout sophomore album, Ceremonials, and endured a frightening vocal injury that caused her to cancel shows, powerhouse vocalist Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine has announced her intentions of taking a week off before starting work on her third full-length release.

“There’s a big ‘take a year off’ plan,” she told Style.com recently. “The record company has put no pressure on me for the next album. They’ve said I can have as long as I want.”

The timing of Welch’s impending hiatus is somewhat curious, as her blossoming popularity continues to expand, thanks to high profile performances at music festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza and Reading. Florence + the Machine have a busy concert schedule between now and the end of the year, sharing dates with mysterious R&B crooner the Weeknd, as well as appearances at Austin City Limits and the Music Midtown 2012 in Atlanta over the weekend of September 21-22.

While fans will want to make the most of these remaining concert dates, Welch can be heard as a guest vocalist on the upcoming album from dance star Calvin Harris, 18 Months (due Oct. 29), on the song “Sweet Nothing.” Check out audio from BBC Radio 1 below.
