Ian Curtis of [lastfm]Joy Division[/lastfm] hanged himself on May 18, 1980. British music critic Simon Reynolds said Curtis’ suicide “made for instant myth.” The members of [lastfm]Joy Division[/lastfm] made a pact long before the death of Ian Curtis that if any of them were to leave the band, they would change their name.


The remaining members of [lastfm]Joy Division[/lastfm] became [lastfm]New Order[/lastfm].
