Ben Folds Five are still working on their new album but they’re already starting to promote it, with a little help from their fans.

" credit="Ben Folds on their connection with their fans"]Utilizing the website, PledgeMusic.com, fans of the band can make a pledge to pre-order a digital download of the upcoming release, as yet untitled, for $10. In exchange, they will get to download the album first, as well as receive exclusive videos, tracks, photos and blogs along the way. For additional costs, they can pledge for a CD, a signed CD, and /or a tour t-shirt. Some other items, such as a signed vinyl album, are already sold out.

By using Pledge Music for this project, Ben Folds Five will be raising awareness and funding for Music Education and Music Therapy. The company, launched in 2009 by Benji Rogers, works with artists to help promote their music while earning contributions for their favorite charities.

[photogallerylink id=98112 align=right]A campaign such as this was right in line with the relationship that Ben Folds Five has with their fans. “Most exciting to me is the potential to utilize the talent of our fan base,” Ben Folds said on the band’s project updates. “My audience has always been a talented buncha mothers. The “Ahs” in our song ‘Not The Same’ originally came spontaneously from our audience. ‘Rock This Bitch’ was hollered by some dude in Chicago as was ‘Do It Anyway’.”

Ben Folds Five, who are actually a trio, started in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 1993. Their biggest hit, to date, is “Brick” from their second album, Whatever and Ever Amen.
