‘The Lost Beatles Concert’ – Not Lost, Not Opening Soon

View Comments

The Lost Beatles Concert, a film that was scheduled to screen at a number of theaters nationwide this month, has been delayed. On Friday, the film was supposed to premiere at New York’s Ziegfeld, but was cancelled. All other screenings have been pulled from the schedule as well. So, what happened?

The first indication could be found on the film’s official website. On the bottom of the homepage, when your mouse goes over the “hover for legal” prompt (and only when you are hovering over it), a message says, “The Beatles: The Lost Concert is not a product of, nor is it affiliated with APPLE RECORDS, or any members of The Beatles and no association is implied.” The Beatles are notorious for the amount of control they have over anything that uses their image and music, so the fact that they have no involvement with the film is legal “red flag” number one. Today, at their website, a link that reads “May 2012 Shows Postponed Click For More Info” leads to a “page not found” on the distributor’s website.

Legal “red flag” number two: the concert documented in the film is not actually “lost.” In fact, it is a bonus track included on The Beatles Box Set on iTunes.

Those craving a cinematic Fab Four experience, though, can catch screenings of Yellow Submarine starting tomorrow. Find out where the film is showing in your neighborhood at the film’s official website.
