This week’s Perfect 9@9 guest host was Daniel Hicks, and his theme was Science and Space Exploration!

Not having lived through the wait myself, I had always recognized “Major Tom (Coming Home)” was a response song directed at Space Oddity, but I only recently realized it took Peter Schilling 14 years to get back to David Bowie on this one! This song represents one of my proudest moments in music, as I had this roommate in college whose taste and variety of music experience had always impressed me. But, he had apparently never known about this song until one day, when he mentioned hearing a snippet of some non-Bowie song that had Major Tom in it. It was just about the only time I was able to direct him to a song, instead of the other way around. In any case, the subject is space exploration, so I’ve selected it here to represent the field of astronomy. Enjoy! – Daniel Hicks
