30 years ago today, on March 20, 1982, the #1 song in the country belonged to [lastfm]Joan Jett and the Blackhearts[/lastfm]. The version of I Love Rock and Roll that you know is not [lastfm]Joan Jett[/lastfm]‘s first recording of that song.

While on tour with [lastfm]The Runaways[/lastfm] in England in 1976 [lastfm]Joan Jett[/lastfm] heard I Love Rock and Roll by [lastfm]Arrows[/lastfm] on television. She recorded her first version in 1979 with Steve Jones and Paul Cook of the [lastfm]Sex Pistols[/lastfm].

Joan Jett re-recorded the song with The Blackhearts in 1981 and that is the version that you know.
