[pullquote quote="Perfect music is boring music -- that's the kind of stuff they play in an elevator. "]The Black Keys have offered us a heaping platter of raw, unbridled blues-rock for their latest album, El Camino.
With Danger Mouse‘s production, the duo was able to gloss up their sound but still maintain their quintessential organic quirks. Drummer, Patrick Carney, full of “organic quirks,” is never afraid to sarcastically show off his imperfections on his lively Twitter feed.
He’s also not afraid to voice his opinion on the state of music these days, saying “perfect music is boring music” and that “people are losing an ear for raw music.“
[pullquote quote="When you turn on the radio it's all kind of perfectly-sequenced, perfectly-written, perfectly-performed by machines."]In an interview, Carney told Jam! Showbiz that “Perfect music is boring music — that’s the kind of stuff they play in an elevator.”
“I think people are losing an ear for (raw music),” Carney continued. “I think everybody kind of has it but you’ve got to exercise it. When you turn on the radio it’s all kind of perfectly-sequenced, perfectly-written, perfectly-performed by machines.”
“It’s hard not to listen to The Who and really understand these are wild men going crazy or Led Zeppelin — these are human beings playing that, it’s all hard to kind of put that in perspective,” explained Carney. “We just try and make music that we love to make and have fun.”
The Black Keys, who just played a positively-reviewed sold-out show at Madison Square Garden, are gearing up to headline both weekends at Coachella.
It seems that, no matter what Carney has to say about “people losing an ear for raw music,” they still want to listen to the rough-edged tunes of the Black Keys.
Music that’s played on the radio.
We are playing Madison Square Garden tonight look for the unfavorable review in the New York Times tomorrow!
