Perfect 9@9: Bill Rowan Recalls the Counting Crows Live
This week’s guest host on Perfect 9@9 was dave fm listener Bill Rowan of Douglasville. His theme was “Songs That Never Get Skipped Over Because They Transport You Every Time.”
Back in 1994 a friend of mine and I went to see Counting Crows at Janus Landing in St. Petersburg, Florida on the August and Everything After tour. We arrived at the Venue and were told the show had been canceled due to Adam Duritz having voice problems but would be rescheduled the next night.
Rumor has it that Adam wanted to see Pink Floyd who were playing at Tampa Stadium that night just across the bay.
We came back the next night and my friend ran into a friend who worked at an office that overlooked the Venue, which was cool, because it meant we could go through his office right onto the balcony overlooking the stage, which meant we didn’t need tickets. So, we sold our tickets in the parking lot and bought t-shirts with the money. The show was awesome (Sam Phillips opened).
[A Murder of One by Counting Crows] always reminds me of that night and this live version is one of the most intense versions of a live song I have ever heard. – Bill Rowan
