Broken Social Scene have sadly announced that they will be embarking on an indefinite hiatus.

The Canadian indie rockers sometimes feature up to twenty members at once but have, for now at least, decided to hang up their many boots.

Last.fm Trends looks at their scrobbles to date.

Releasing four albums since their inception in Toronto in 1999 has won the band 41,088,907 scrobbles, with all fifteen tracks in their top weekly tracks chart getting well over 1,000 listeners.

The band’s second album, 2002′s You Forgot It In People, has been scrobbled a massive 12,895,466 times, with 2005′s self-titled follow-up trailing with 10,492,147 scrobbles.

The release of last year’s Forgiveness Rock Record took the band to a peak of almost 400,000 scrobbles a week, as the graph below shows.

News of the band’s hiatus will be sure to sadden fans – potentially leading to a sharp up-rise in scrobbles as fans become nostalgic over old material.
