Kings of the grunge scene, both Nirvana and Pearl Jam are marking twenty years since the respective releases of their seminal albums. Nevermind and Ten have made it two decades in the rock pantheon, so how are they performing today?

Last.fm Trends is looking at their recent scrobbles, to find out.

Last.fm. Trends: Nirvanas Nevermind Vs. Pearl Jams Ten Twenty Years Later

As well as releasing their albums within a month of each other in 1991, Nirvana and Pearl Jam share a remarkably similar trend in terms of their Last.fm listeners. The graph above (click to enlarge) shows their weekly listeners for the past six months, and it appears the two bands’ paths are inextricable.

In terms of album listeners over all time, Nevermind also edges out Ten: it’s got 25,817,622 plays from 1,715,306 listeners, compared to Pearl Jam’s 15,295,698 plays from 1,038,245 listeners. With numbers in the millions however, it’s clear that twenty years haven’t dampened either album’s impact on today’s listeners.

Make sure that what you listen to counts, at Last.fm. Meanwhile, Last.fm Trends brings you the news in scrobbles every weekday.
