[lastfm]R.E.M.[/lastfm] just released their official music video for “Überlin” off their new album Collapse into Now. And yes that is Kick-Ass star Aaron Johnson.
This is just one of the videos in a series conceived by lead vocalist, Michael Stripe. The video is part of his Collapse Into Now Film Project. Stripe has invited guest directors to create a series videos for each song off the album, resurrecting the lost art of the “long form player.” R.E.M.’s album is due out next week and Stripe says, “It’s one of the best things we’ve ever made.”
Sam Taylor-Wood directed the video for “Überlin.” On the list of guest directors is none-other than Oscar host, actor, and Yale graduate James Franco. Franco is working with Stripe to produce two of the videos from the album. Stripe told NME, “It was really fun for me to curate, working with all these different artists, and seeing how they interpreted the songs. The thing that was surprising is how much they interlockingly work, like an album.”
